First Aid Training Courses Offered

Basic (Emergency) First Aid – CPR & AED Level A or C

Prerequisites: None

Duration – 8 hours

Description: Students will learn to recognize and provide interventions for life-threatening emergencies until medical aid arrives. Course content includes CPR & AED and choking for adults (Level A), adults, children, infants (Level C), shock and unconsciousness, severe bleeding, head & spinal injuries, and medical conditions. Can offer Canadian Red Cross or St. John Ambulance certification.

Intermediate (Standard) First Aid – CPR C & AED (with BC Out of Jurisdiction)

Prerequisites: None

Duration: 16 hours

Description: Intermediate (formerly Standard) First Aid Level C is for individuals requiring First Aid and CPR for their workplace, education requirements, or personal interest. Course content includes Level C CPR training and certification (Adult, Child, Infant, and 2-rescuer resuscitation) and AED training and certification, choking and breathing emergencies, bone and joint injuries, environmental emergencies, opioid overdose, wounds, bleeding and burn management, medical conditions, opioid overdose and mental health first aid. Can offer Canadian Red Cross or St. John Ambulance certification. BC Out of Jurisdiction certificate is available.

Wilderness First Aid

Duration: 40 hours

Description: Perfect for people (guides, hunters, remote workers, etc.) who live, work or play in remote areas this certification provides knowledge on how to provide care for environmental injuries when medical help may be delayed for 24 hours or more. Topics include prevention; health and wellness of the group, leadership skills, survival skills, assessment, extended care and decision-making around additional supports required.

Remote First Aid

Duration: 20 hours

Description: For those who live, work or play in remote areas, learn practical first aid in an outdoor setting. This course adds in knowledge on how to provide care for environmental injuries when medical help may be delayed up to 24 hours.

Pet First Aid

Duration: 10 hours

Description: The comprehensive Walks ‘N’ Wags pet first aid certification course is designed to provide interactive, hands-on training on live animals. Perfect for people in pet industry or pet owners. Gain knowledge on early illness detection, injury prevention, emergency response skills, CPR techniques, airway management, choking situations, wound care, splinting, and more. Equip yourself with the essential skills to confidently handle a pet emergency and keep your pet safe. Focus is on dogs and cats and open to everyone aged 12 and above.

Basic Life Support BLS Provider

Duration: 3.5 hours

Description: Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundational course for healthcare professionals and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. BLS is the cornerstone program for healthcare professionals including paramedicine practitioners, nurses, dentists, hygienists, massage therapists, and more. We can offer Heart and Stroke or St. John Ambulance courses.

Lifesaver

Prerequisites: Current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid.

Duration: 3 hours

Description: Severe bleeds can happen anywhere and anytime (vehicle accidents, farm accidents, public violence etc.) and need to be recognized and treated immediately. Course can be customized to student needs – home, security, enforcement, emergency personnel. Course focussed on stopping major bleeds. Content includes emergency scene management, preserving evidence, severe bleeding and injuries, bandaging, tourniquet use, triage, and hazard recognition.

Course is St. John Ambulance awareness course. No certification is issued.

Self Defense

Prerequisites: None

Duration: 1 – 4 hours

Description: Course can be customized to student needs – home, security, enforcement, emergency personnel. Course is hands on focussed on situational awareness and practical techniques for protecting oneself.

Course is awareness only. No certification is issued.

Survival

Prerequisites: None

Duration: 1 – 8 hours

Description: This course is for people that work or play in the outdoors or remote areas where medical aid may be delayed. Course can be customized to student needs and interests, Course content can include fire building, shelter building, knife skills, team building, bear aware and bear spray use, wilderness first aid, plant identification and medicine, and more.

Course is awareness only. No certification is issued.

First Aid in Child Care

Prerequisites: Must be 16 yrs old

Duration: 1 Day

Description: Students will learn to recognize and provide interventions for life-threatening emergencies until medical aid arrives. Course content includes Basic First Aid: CPR & AED and choking for adults (Level A), adults, children, infants Level C), shock and unconsciousness, severe bleeding, head & spinal injuries, medical conditions and additional focus on childhood diseases and common medical emergencies.
